Rethinking Marine Transfer Station (MTS), Year: 2019
The MTS is located on 135th Street and the Hudson River. It was the main facility for receiving waste since 1955. Rethinking the MTS is an attempt to reconnecting this historic New York neighborhood with its water front, a place that can enhance quality of life for the people of Harlem every day. The new architecture of the station – with proposed programs: exhibition, education, economic and entertainment – make sufficient minimal, targeted and limited interventions. The project aim is to create an ambitious public resource, of flexible capacity, which allows work at several scales from everyday exhibitions to large-scale artistic events, public learning activities and economic regeneration, which consolidate the redevelopment of the MTS. Under a light and transparent envelope, an efficient structure determines free, flexible and evolutionary platforms, fit to the needs of the program.
