Flood Energy, Year: 2013, International Competition Winning Entry
In response to the call for resiliency of Rockaway Peninsula – which suffered heavy damages from Hurricane Sandy – “Flood Energy” proposes a hybrid intervention concept to help create resiliency for coastal areas. The project introduces a dynamic infrastructure that implements power of pushing waves to lift the urban blocks saving residents’ lives and buildings at flood times; while during the none flood period, within fish farms, it is providing a more biodiverse habitat for brook trout fish, oysters, and other species. The walkable and bike friendly super structure is paired with cultural and community resiliency frameworks promoting quality of living with neighboring sites that helps to increase awareness and public knowledge about resilient shoreline.
